Load Your Lunchboxes With Classic Snacks {Made in USA Giveaway}

Snyder's Pretzels & Lance Cracker Sandwiches are Classic Snacks made in PA

When I am picking snacks for my kids, here is what I am looking for:

  1. Low or no sugar – in spite of my best efforts, they get enough.
  2. Variety of low-cal and filling, depending on how close the next meal is.
  3. Some peanut-free options in case we will be with someone allergic.
  4. Choices that my kids will actually eat.

That last one is the kicker.  Finding my carefully selected snacks, crushed and uneaten in the bottom of the lunchbox makes me crazy.  And when they find something they like, I stock up, but then a week later, they will declare that they don’t want it anymore. Don’t get me started!

So here’s my strategy: I have certain favorites I can count on.  I buy a bunch and store them in the basement, just taking out a few at a time, keeping a nice variety in the kitchen in a snack box.  Once in a while, I drop something new into the snack box mix to see how the kids like it, but having a nice selection of the classics is the key. That’s my snack box in the photo. I could probably upgrade from a cardboard box, but it works!

snydersnackWhen Snyder’s of Hanover reminded me that their pretzels and Lance Snack crackers are made in  Pennsylvania I was pleased to realize that they were already among our favorites.  They sent me a CRAZY HUGE back to school box containing 100 calorie snack packs of all of the Snyder’s pretzels as well as bunches of their Lance whole grain peanut butter crackers and variety packs of their cheese crackers. The box even included some of their new gluten free pretzel sticks. That’s not something we have to worry about in our house, but we tried them and we loved them as much as any other pretzel so I can attest that they are not a compromise – in fact they are a treat.  Don’t tell my kids this trick, but one package took a late-night dip in a (not gluten free) jar of Trader Joe’s Cookie Butter.  Yum.
