Looking back on the past week at USA Love List, we saw a lot of green. And what wasn’t green was resplendent with bright spring colors. We are celebrating Earth Day this weekend and it is a great opportunity to reflect on yet another good reason to make the extra effort to buy American. When we buy something made in the USA, we get a great product, but we also get a two-for-one feel good boost. It feels good to be patriotic, to look out for our communities, our jobs, our friends, and our neighbors by supporting American businesses. And it also feels good to respect the environment, to choose products that required less shipping, that were made in non-polluting factories with fairly paid workers, using non-hazardous parts and ingredients. Sometimes you might miss it amid all of the red, white, and blue, but buying American is green too.
Love the Earth, Love the USA
We’re still pretty excited about the story we shared this week highlighting the new changes at GreenCupboards.com, just in time for Earth Day. They are offering carbon-neutral free shipping on orders of $50 or more (and $5 shipping on everything else). And they have developed a long list of eco-traits allowing you to search for and shop based on the environmental issues you care about most. Our favorite eco-trait: Made in the USA, of course.
Our weekly American Beauty update shared some wonderful American-made products made with natural ingredients and we hope you didn’t miss our list of fun gardening gear made in the USA from Amazon and Uncommon Goods.
Reviews & Giveaways
We have two VERY popular giveaways going on. We just launched one for a really, really, really nice sporty shoulder bag from Tom Bihn Bags in Seattle. And there are a few days left on the crazy cute PJ’s from Skippyjon Jones Stuff. Stop by and read the product reviews and enter to win while you are there. We have lots of easy entry options. If you have already entered, don’t forget to stop back each day because there are some entry options available to give you additional chances daily.
Fashion & Beauty
We mentioned spring flowers… you’ll find them in the form of bright, floral spring dresses inspired by Mad Men style – the latest from our Fashion Editor Jill Homiak using all American-made fashion.
We also want to mention that Beauty Editor Angie Barnes scored us a great promo code for the Fake Bake sunless tanning products we featured recently. Here is the scoop from Angie: “Get 20% off the Fake Bake Original Formula Lotion now through May by using code LOTION20 on the Fake Bake site. It truly is a fantastic formula with golden to olive undertones.”
If you spot a great American-made product this weekend, snap a pic and share it with us!
