American textile and clothing industries hit hard times in the 1980s and 90s. Many moved manufacturing overseas to keep product costs low, and Carhartt was one of them. When demand for the brand increased and their product line expanded, Carhartt moved most manufacturing and finishing to Mexico. They did keep four facilities open stateside in Tennessee and Kentucky, so there are still some Carhartt clothing items made in the USA.

Made in USA Carhartt clothing items can be tricky to find. A “made in USA” search on the Carhartt website results in a large selection of items, however, when checking the descriptions many of these items are listed as “imported”. I did notice that there are some items with a “Made in USA” image sticker. These items are verified American made in the description.
American made Carhartt clothing can be hard to find in stores too. I checked several big box stores near me and found NO coats, overalls, pants, shirts, and hats with “Made in USA” on the label.
